We enjoyed our time in Perth with the family.
Lots of play and visits to animal farms.
Hopefully we may see one of these in the wild!
Dave even managed a local fun orienteering event.
Leaving Perth and off to Kalgoorlie - not far.
It was great to leave the city and the traffic.
We were even passed by a train on the way out!
All the way to Kalgoorlie we followed this waterpipe.
This is the fresh water supply FROM Perth to Kalgoorlie. Been there since the early 1900's
Even passed a crop duster.
And the rabbit proof fence up to Port Hedland/Broome way.
We stopped a night on the way at another of the great picnic spots.
Only us for this night.
Continued on next day with the water pipe.
Through Coolgardie with the wide Main Street. Had to be wide enough to turn a camel train round!
And into Kalgoorlie with its wide street and Gold Town Hall.
They have a great museum with all the gold history.

We had to do a Gold mine tour.

The hole is about 600 mtrs deep. The old shaft mines from the old timers went down 1500 mtrs!!
They have 40 of these trucks - 4 million each!
After Kalgoorlie south to Norseman.

Next stop was at 'Cocklebiddy Roadhouse' in the middle of nowhere.
The next day we took a 30 km trip out to the coast and the Eyre Bird Observatory.
Great white sand hills out here.

The 'new' telegraph station is now an accommodation house.
Alan & Wendy are ex Kiwis and have been out here as volunteers for 5 mths.
Great coffee.
The trip in for the last 12 km was definitely 4 x 4 drive in sand!
From 'Cocklebiddy' we continued east the next day.
The coastline has some great cliffs.
At Madura down off the escarpment to the plains below.
Very like Africa and we looked for the giraffes!
The road is used as the emergency runway for flying doctor service.
At Eucla 13 km from the border with Sth. Australia.
The border Post and welcome sign. No inspection here but no fruit or veg. past Ceduna.
Change the clocks again! Now 2 1/2hrs behind NZ.
Another stop at a picnic area.
Next day on to Ceduna and now entering the grain country again. The harvest was in full swing so lots of trucks.

A day here for washing.
