Been awhile since the last posting so 2 weeks in one.
We had nearly a week in Perth catching up with Roger and family.
Our lovely campsite in Perth by a pond. Water birds and frogs!!!
A trip to Fremantle to soak up the atmosphere out there.
Such a great spot
From Perth we headed inland and SE to the Wheat Belt.
Lovely old farming towns out here.
Either on the rail or near large grain silos.
We spent 1 night free camping at one of the many rock monoliths that occur out here.
At a place called Narembeen we visited a grain museum to learn more about this industry.
All the farms around here are grain growing with some sheep to eat the stubble.
CBH (Co-operative Bulk Harvesting) is the Company that collects and stores the grains.
They own the silos and the trains. I think they are a farmer owned Co-Op.
This year is predicted to be the biggest harvest ever. Harvesting starts at end Oct start of Nov.
We stayed a few nights in Kalgarin and went to the famous Wave Rock.
These large rock outcrops were/are used to collect the water run-off and stored in dams.
The fence is to divert the water into storage.
Hippo Rock and below Mulka's Cave and rock paintings.
Some great gums trees out here. Surprisingly you don't see many big trees, just scrub.
In Hyden there was a magic collection of metal art depicting the areas history.
As always Surveyors played a major part in developing the areas.
From here we headed further south and East to Esperance, gradually leaving the vast grain belt and moving into some beef and sheep farming areas.
Esperance has a 3 ship wharf/harbour that is so close to the beach.
Beautiful blue waters and lovely white sand around here.
A trip East of Esperance takes you to the Cape Le Grande NP.
More magic rock outcrops, Islands and white sand beaches.
A fisherman's paradise.
Also lots of wildlife, birds and wildflowers out here.
Heading back East now (1st Oct) and will be back in Perth in 2 weeks for another family hullo.
From there to Kalgoorlie and then East across the Nullabor.
Another posting in 2 weeks.
