Week 20 - Karijini NP and Tom Price

Heading out of Port Hedland on the road south.

The home of Spinifex

Very rocky hills.

Into the Karijini NP

Our great campsite in the bush.

A walk down into this Gorge.

Some of the track was interesting!

The head of this gorge.

Waterfalls and clear water.

Great rock formations.

How about this for a multi leader?

Off on another really rough road to some more Gorges.

Unfortunately this 4x4 found the road too rough!

Again more steep sided and spectacular rocks.  We stayed on the top for these 2!

Back on the road and heading for Tom Price.

An interesting not too straight and hilly road.

Tom Price another Iron Ore town. (Rio Tinto)

This was a friendly fella.

Another sun set.

This hole would fit 3 - 4 Waihi gold mine holes in it.

For those surveyors who bother to look at our blog!

Again everything on a massive scale

The plant used to crush the ore down to 2 sizes.  Coarse sand or marble pebbles.

A truck in the workshop.  $4 million each!

Tyres everywhere.
Rio Tinto own the mine, the railway to the coast and have their own Power Stations.
Why are we giving them money in Bluff?
Off now to the Coast and some swimming!

  1. Hello gypsies - lovely to revisit Tom Price with you...and to see down the circular pool at Karijini. We were reluctant to leave the bikes unattended and wander too far.
    Thinking of you from Queenstown.

    XD
