Week 22 - Carnarvon to Denham, Kalbarri, Geraldton Morawa Beacon and Perth

South from Carnarvon to Shark Bay and Denham.

Out to Shark Bay and Denham flat but lush.

These ancient stromatolites at Hamelin Bay are interesting.

Pass through the electric fence across the Peninsular.

Lookout at Eagle Bluff and a Dugong down below.
Very strange weed eating mammal!

Lots of other wildlife around.

Did not see these!!

We stayed in Denham and did not go through to Monkey Mia.
There is a fee to enter that National Park and we had been there before in 2010.
We took a trip to an aquarium and learnt about some of the fish we had seen while snorkelling.

Also out to the remains of a sheep farm on the Peninsular now the Francois Peron NP.
They farmed out here from 1880's till 1990's  but water was the big problem.

After Denham headed south to Kalbarri

Into our 1st crop farming today

The coast around here very rugged and beautiful.  Many shipwrecks over the years in this part of OZ.
Probably the most famous was the Batavia  wrecked on off-shore islands in 1629.

More flat land on our way to Geraldton

Geraldton another Port for grain and iron ore.
Also lots of fishing boats.

Our camp was next to the railway and Moore's Point lighthouse.

Still great sunsets here.

A visit to the museum and the story of the Batavia.
This arch was made from stones carried on the ship as ballast

South and inland thru the wheat belt.

Huge grain silos and bins everywhere.  Harvesting in Oct/Nov.
Mostly wheat, Barley, Oats and Canola.
This area must buzz with trucks, trains and action during harvest.

Grain silos everywhere.
The salt pan is very close to the surface.

One of the old pubs along the way.
Along way between pubs!

Of course this is wildflower country as well.
Jude is loving this!

A neat steel statue.

And finally into Perth.
