Week 8 Townsville, Ingham and Kurrimine Beach

We spent 4 days in Townsville (6-9th June).  A great place with heaps to do.

Lots of history and old buildings in downtown Townsville.

Our Camp at Coral Coast Tourist Park.
Alongside the RAAF so lots of noise!!!

Views of Townsville from our walk up Castle Hill.

This fella beat us up there!

We visited a friend from University days now living in Bushlands Beach just nth of Townsville.
Great views and the best coffee maker in town (that's him at work in the background!)

A complicated discussion about sundials, latitude and the meaning of life.

Off for a morning crab fishing.

Unfortunately we did not see any of these chaps.

Cat food for the crabs

This was the smallest and the only crab Dave was prepared to hold.
They had to be 3 times this size to keep!

Some of the birds we saw around the district.
On Monday 10th head north from Townsville

Now into sugarcane country.  The harvest has just started but not working today as long weekend.

A  visit to the Tyto Wetlands in Ingham.
We saw our 1st SNAKE today.  Sorry no photo but about 1mtr long.
A red belly black snake and venomous!!

Lots of road work again on this highway.

Also new high tension power-lines under construction

Our overnight free camp at a parking area halfway between
Townsville and Cairns. Noisy as on highway!!

Into the real tropical rainforest now.

Our camp for 3 nights at Kurrimine Beach.
