We are now right in the Rain Forest and Sugar cane growing area.
Port Mourilyn where the cane ships come.
The usual signs but we have not seen a croc. yet.
Inside the Sugar Cane Museum at Mourilyn. All our questions answered?
Thousands of holes on the beachers from bubble crabs. Some of the holes are damn big!
Great palm trees around here. This is the Fan Palm.
We are in Cassowary country. Dave managed to see one briefly but plenty of evidence that some are here anyway!!
A couple of views on the 'Canecutter' highway from Kurrimine Beach to Innisfail.
Water fall at Mena creek and a castle place Paronella a bit like Larnach Castle in Dunedin.
One of the many sugar cane factories
Bananas by the mile
We even found some surveyors working!
One of the places we went looking for cassowaries.
Repairs to one of the miles and miles of cane railways.
Another of the many Road Work.
Even a Tea Plantation out in the sticks.
We spent 1 night free camping in the Wooroonooran NP
We went for a tropical forest bush walk to the Nundroya Falls.
The forest is very like the NZ native bush but with different trees.
We also paid some money (consession rates of course) and went on a
Tropical Forest Canopy walk in Mamu.
On our way to Cairns.
Hard to see but we passed a group of motorcycles. No yellow ones though!
At last a proper mountain.
A couple Sikh Temples on the way in to Cairns.
Our campsite at Cairns
We drove up to Kuranda above Cairns.
These are the spectacular Barron River Falls.
We saved our pennies and did not go via the mountain railway.
Would be a good trip though. Back down on a cable-car.
Kuranda is a craft and arty town.
A view of the Cairns region from a lookout on the road down.
The yellow motorbike will appear when you least expect it.
